Rooted addresses the presence of people of color in contemporary culture. Presented as a collection of contemporary art by artists living and working in southern California, their work explores issues of visibility, sovereignty, and being rooted in time and place. This exhibition is guest curated by Art Historian, Carol Henke and Art Collector, Dee Kerrison.

The artists of “Rooted” consider place, archive, and memory as fruitful sites of making. Attending to biography, landscape, diaspora, and technology, these artists ask how abstraction, collage, painting, and textile propose a critical vantage. Here, beauty and abjection, liberatory possibilities and conceptual arrangements guide visitors throughout the gallery. Collectively, “Rooted” presents a series of responses to the known world while forging and forwarding visions in excess of it.
