It was a sobering moment when I was asked to give the 2019 Commencement Address for the College of the Arts at Long Beach California State University. The opportunity to speak to young people of the arts community is one that I accept with humility and reverence. I sincerely hope that my message was received as an offering of truth and love. Of course I feel a little self-conscious about the attention I received, but I was delighted to join the graduating class of 2019 on Friday, May 24. As an Artist and a bit of an introvert it is sometimes difficult for me to express my appreciation. I am grateful for the thoughtfulness, professionalism and hospitality, it means a great deal to me. Many thanks to Cyrus Parker-Jeannette and the academic leadership of the college. Thank you, CSULB.
