Printmaking Class for Artists

Linonleum Printmaking class for artists coming up in April!

It is a hands-on immersion in linoleum block printmaking given by artist and master printmaker Abel Alejandre in the Coagula Print Studio in Chinatown. There are two Saturday/Sunday Class Sessions.

LINOLEUM PRINTMAKING CLASS

INSTRUCTOR: ABEL ALEJANDRE

-This class covers your development of imagery, preparation,  process, and technique through demonstrations, studio time and detailed discussions.

-You will learn relief printing with the intention of conducting a safe printmaking practice – you can become a printmaker even if you do not have access to a printmaking studio.

-You will learn linoleum cutting and one-color techniques. Class will cover ink preparation, block cutting, when to favor printing by hand and when to use a printing press, color theory in print, image transfer methods, and paper preparation.

-Workshops are limited to 10 participants, and each person will have their own workstation and individual training.

-Although the class is geared towards professional artists, everyone eager to learn about printmaking is welcome. Registration fee covers materials, plates, ink and paper.

-You will receive an email prior to the workshop with instructions for what to bring and how to prepare for an exciting two-days in the studio.

About the instructor:
Abel Alejandre is a leading contemporary artist known for his labor-intensive rendering in drawings, paintings and fine art prints. His work combines emotion and precision with a conceptual foundation rooted in presenting psychological dramas absent extended narratives. His work has been exhibited at the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago and he has had solo shows at the Centro Estatal de las Artes in Mexicali, Mexico and the Museum of Art and History (MOAH) in Lancaster, California. He has shown at the Dallas Art Fair, Miami Project Art Fair, Pulse New York Art Fair and dozens of galleries around the United States in since the late 1980s. In 2017 he was the artist in  residence at Fullerton College. In 2013 he was awarded a public art commission for the metro Expo train line’s Westwood/Rancho Park station in Los Angeles. The station was completed in 2016 where thousands of commuters a day see the permanent installation of his artwork.

He is represented by Coagula Curatorial gallery in Los Angeles.

WHERE:
Classes are held in the printing room at Coagula Curatorial gallery in Chinatown, Downtown Los Angeles. The gallery is at 974 Chung King Road, some free and metered street parking nearby, as is a paid lot adjacent to the gallery at 981 N. Hill Street.

COST: $200 – This includes tuition, registration fee and the following:

Individual workstation, Cutting Tools, Linoleum plates, Ink, Paper, Gloves, Tools, Bench hooks, Barens, spoons, Inks, Cleanup supplies, Paper and Printing Press.
