Please join us for a Fundraising event to help offset the rising production costs for the Calavera Fashion Show & Walking Altars celebration . The Calavera Fashion Show has become one of the premiere Dia De Los Muertos events in Los Angeles showcasing the diverse talents of the Los Angeles Chicano/Latino art community.

The night will feature a showcase of previous Calavera Fashions that will include Rosanna Ahrens, Cici Segura Gon…zalez, Lilia Ramirez (Liliflor) Abel Alejandre and Joe Bravo among others.

If you have never attended this event come and get a taste for what we have in store on November 6.

For the seventh year Tropico de Nopal Gallery-Art Space will host the Calavera Fashion Show and Walking Altars – one of the most unique and beautiful Dia de los Muertos celebrations in Los Angeles.This is an event that originated at Tropico by its founder director Reyes Rodriguez in 2003.

This year’s event will have the participation of 20 local artists and fashionistas honoring people and or social causes close to their heart. This is a multi-media event taking place in the outdoor courtyard of the gallery. A “Calaverawalk” is built with a set, lights, MC, and DJ, blending fashion, performance and music creating a special “couture for the deceased” with all the charm and mix of culture and art that make this one of the most unique Day of the Dead celebration anywhere.

To complement this event the gallery will exhibit Calavera Fashions from artists that have participated from 2003 –2008. A special opening reception will take place on Monday November 2 at 7PM.

Each year ChimMaya offers up our annual ‘Dia de los Muertos’ exhibition. ‘Muertos y Ofrendas 2009′ is a mixed group of age, talent, vision, and perspective on an ancient celebration.

Acrylics, oils, mixed media, collage, wood, assemblage…and a diverse ensemble of artists from California, Nevada, Arizona, Texas and Guadalajara, Mexico…is sure to make this ‘Dia de los Muertos’ exhibition one of our finest.
