For the seventh year Tropico de Nopal Gallery-Art Space will host the Calavera Fashion Show and Walking Altars – one of the most unique and beautiful Dia de los Muertos celebrations in Los Angeles.This is an event that originated at Tropico by its founder director Reyes Rodriguez in 2003.
This year’s event will have the participation of 20 local artists and fashionistas honoring people and or social causes close to their heart. This is a multi-media event taking place in the outdoor courtyard of the gallery. A “Calaverawalk” is built with a set, lights, MC, and DJ, blending fashion, performance and music creating a special “couture for the deceased” with all the charm and mix of culture and art that make this one of the most unique Day of the Dead celebration anywhere.
To complement this event the gallery will exhibit Calavera Fashions from artists that have participated from 2003 –2008. A special opening reception will take place on Monday November 2 at 7PM.
