TWO UNIQUE DIA DE LOS MUERTOS CELEBRATIONS IN ONE PLACE

Tropico de Nopal Gallery-Art Space celebrates and honors Dia de los Muertos with its OFRENDAS 2010, an Altar-Installation Exhibition inside of the gallery and their Calavera Fashion Show & Walking Altars in their outdoor patio space.

The Altar-Installation Exhibition in the gallery (opening Nov 2) will include the work of renowned artist and “altarista” Ofelia Esparza, vet…eran Dia de los Muertos artist-curator Consuelo Flores along with Tropico’s co-director Marialice Jacob. The artists will be honoring their ancestors paying homage to loved ones in both traditional and contemporary interpretations transforming the gallery and giving life to this extraordinary Mexican celebration and tradition.

The Calavera Fashion Show & Walking Altars, (Nov.6) now in its eight year. The event has become one the most unique celebrations of Dia de Los Muertos anywhere. This year’s event includes19 well respected Chicano/Latino artists from Los Angeles weaving together fashion, art, music and performance in one of the most anticipated celebrations of the year. As Reyes Rodriguez, artist, creator and curator of the event said “We believe that this event is the utmost Ofrenda, a couture for the deceased.”

Doors open at 7:30 PM with the Calavera Fashion Show set to start at 8:30 PM. Seats are limited and offered at $25 (advance sales starting Oct 12), with standing-general admission tickets offered at $12 (door). A cash bar & food will be available throughout the event.
